How to Reduce International Credit Card Fees

Posted in Credit Cards, living, money at 2:10 pm by Katia

  • Apply for a no-fee credit card which will not impose international transaction fees.  This allows affords you the security of a credit card without the traditional associated fees.
  • Whether you are using an American or international credit card, know how much you are charged for transactions made abroad.  Most credit card companies in the U.S. (Visa, MasterCard, etc.) charge a foreign transaction fee up to 3% to merchants processing the order.  Contact customer service prior to traveling so you are not blindsided by unexpected fees.
  • Another fee that can be imposed on transactions abroad is foreign exchange rates, or a currency conversion fee, which may or not be the best exchange rate out there.  For example, if you paid 100 Euros for a meal equal to $125.00, you may be charged fees based on the $125.00.

Multi-Level Marketing In The Internet Sphere

Posted in Business, money at 10:08 pm by admin

It seems that there has been a huge spike in multi-level marketing companies since the dot com boom (see Wikipedia’s MLM entry). What’s interesting about this trend is that the democratization of the internet has had a huge impact on the way that MLM’s target consumers and distributers. Where they once depended on word of mouth and personal relationships, they now rely on the mass exposure that the internet offers.

However, advances in the online sphere aren’t enough to satiate the rapidly growing MLM industry. Some companies have found a success by purchasing MLM leads from companies that specialize in finding interested individuals in niche markets.

While the MLM community is always unpredictable, one thing you can count on is that the internet will play an ever increasing role in the way they do business.

Funny Money

Posted in money at 11:15 am by Charlene

Yesterday while I was on hold with my car insurance company (which had a pretty creative hold message), my roommate came to tell me a quote that she had found about money. I thought I’d share because I got such a kick out of it.

Every day I get up and look through the Forbes list of the richest people in America. If I’m not there, I go to work.

Makes sense to me!

Wedding Cost Breakdown

Posted in money at 2:53 pm by Katia

Anyone who has experienced one first-hand knows that weddings are not cheap (just ask my parents).  My wedding took place nearly four months ago in Salt Lake City and was a rather extravagant event.  With the exception of our Utah caterer, wedding expenses were split between the two families according to who traditionally pays for what.  Which brings up the question, who is supposed to pay for what?

Bride’s Family

  • Invitations
  • All reception costs (food, venue rental, drinks, etc.)
  • Bridesmaids’ bouquets.
  • Groom’s wedding band.
  • Gifts for the bridesmaids.
  • Bride’s dress, jewelry, and other accessories.
  • Parking and transportation expenses
  • Photographer.
  • Music for the ceremony and the reception

Groom’s Family

  • Any fees associated with the marriage license.
  • Bride’s ring(s).
  • Ties, gifts, and boutonnieres for the grooms’ men.
  • Bouquet for the bride and corsages for the mothers.
  • Fee for the clergyman.
  • Rehearsal dinner the night before the wedding.
  • The honeymoon.

New Year Business Plans

Posted in Business, money at 11:53 am by admin

If your New Year’s goal is to make more money or become an entrepreneur, consider following many people’s tracks by starting an online retail business with a dropshipper. As an online retailer myself, I found this Doba review helpful when deciding amongst dropship companies. Make the New Year one you’ll remember and cherish by working for yourself.

Making Money On The Road

Posted in living, money at 10:22 am by admin

I just learned that the average student debt out of college is over $19,000 although many students graduate with over $40,000.  The idea of getting a non-traditional job that requires less training is becoming more and more appealing.  For example you can get truck driving jobs with only 23 days of training, and most truckers make around $50,000 a year.

The demand for truck drivers is getting higher and higher each year which means more opportunities to take advantage of a new career and new scenery.  Whether you’re in a dead end job, looking for a new career, or if you just need a change maybe a trucking job is the thing for you.  It’s surprising how fast you can be on the road and making more money than you’d expect.

New Entrepreneur

Posted in Business, living, money at 12:32 pm by admin

I’ve always wanted to start my own company. Besides the fact that most millionaires are entrepreneurs (some without a college education even), it sounded great to make your own hours and work for yourself (even if the hours are long at first). With no one micro-managing you, working for yourself allows you to work hard and directly see the results.

Unfortunately, I didn’t have a large capital to start a business. As an alternative to borrowing over $100,000, I started an online business as a spin off from my auction site. I used a dropship company to avoid spending money on man power for storing inventory, and packing and shipping products. I have more time for marketing, and so far everything is going great.

Try getting online if you want to start your own business from home or want to be an entrepreneur too. Good luck!

County Filing

Posted in mortgage, money at 1:00 pm by admin

If you’re an attorney or mortgage lender, you can save money when submitting documents to the country recorder’s office by using a less expensive county filing. This filing helps submitters like yourself and counties to electronically submit and receive legal documents with more security and for less costs than older methods employing runners, etc.

Save Money on Catering

Posted in money at 10:50 am by admin

If you plan on hiring a caterer soon, whether it’s for a wedding, corporate event, or family party, there are ways to hire the caterer you want without the large bill you don’t. Here are some ways to save money on your catering costs while still hiring the reputable Salt Lake City caterer that you want.

-Compare costs of decorations. Some catering or event halls provide their own tables, chairs, linens, and decorations. Determine which company is the cheapest and use them. If you desire to use flowers and candles, the caterer may be able to get these for less than you can.

-Choose the buffet. Small appetizers may seem less expensive, but if you take into account how many your guests will eat over the event time, as well as the cost of the waiters, hors d’oeuvres may be more expensive. Buffets or dinner services can fill up your guests for about the same price as hors d’oeuvres.

-Order less expensive food. Avoid expensive items like shrimp, lobster, and steak if you want to save money. Instead order chicken and less expensive food. Don’t forget to order plenty of filler foods like bread and rolls, which cost less than other food items but are just as satisfying.

-Ask about alcohol. Some caterers supply the beverages, but alcohol can cost you a bundle. To save money, see if you can supply the beverages without a corking fee.

-Supply the caterer an accurate guest count. Most caterers give a cushion on the food supply of 2-5% for unexpected guests. By providing the actual number of guests, you can save some money.

Making Extra Income

Posted in money at 8:25 am by admin

Young women in their 20s strapped for money now have an option to make a load of cash in a short amount of time. Egg donation has quickly become a way for college-aged women who are financially strapped to earn an extra income without getting a traditional second job. Egg donation has young women undergo treatment to produce eggs to donate to an infertile couple hoping to conceive. This type of treatment can pay well, ranging from $2,500 to $20,000 per donation.

An ideal egg donor is aged twenty-one, but younger than thirty years old. Egg donors should be in good health and have a healthy family medical history. Egg donors are more desireable and can earn more if they have successfully donated before, have higher education (such as a bachelor’s or master’s degree), are attractive, have high IQ scores or SAT scores, and have skills in music or sports. In particular demand are donors with ethnic backgrounds, such as Asian, Inidan, or Jewish descent.

Couples typically choose a donor that has characteristics similar to their own. After being chosen by a couple, egg donors can complete a donation cycle in about 2 to four months, depending on the infertility clinic. After successful retrieval of the eggs, donors rest for one or two days and are completely back to normal in about two weeks.
